ViviLu founder Kathryn "Kate" Machi is a proud, enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a dual American-French citizen. Her YA feature Firebird (in development with Endeavor Content/Fifth Season) and TV drama, June Rose: An American Chronicle, are both on The Indigenous List, representing "the best and most promising Native creatives in the film and television industry."
While a working mother of two young children, Kate won Women's and Native American scholarships at San Francisco State University, earning her MFA in Creative Writing in 2009. Finding her passion in the visual poetry of screenwriting, she continued her apprenticeship via Sundance Co//ab, The Community of Writers, The Black List, AFF, the California Film Institute, and Stage 32, among others. Kate is an active member of the Writers Guild of America, Women in Film SF/Bay Area, and the Cherokee Nation Film Writers group. THE PISTILS: Performance-based thriller dramatizing the crisis of MMIWG (Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls).
JUNE ROSE: AN AMERICAN CHRONICLE: Feminist/Identity TV drama series set in the late 1960s San Francisco and the Cherokee Nation. Inspired by my mother's life and historical events.
THE DANGERGIRLS: Limited series thriller set in San Francisco's gritty '80s underground art scene.
